OSPREY LAKE 39TH CORN ROAST - 2024
It was the best year ever for weather - sunny, warm weekend with temperatures up to 30c. People were looking for shade and enjoying the spray of water during the canoe races.
The weekend started with the Fishing Derby on Friday. There were 62 registered, with many large fish caught.
Saturday morning started with the event set up and adult games. The tournaments had a total of 168 people registered.
Sunday morning started with about 50 children in the bike parade with over 200 parents, relatives, and neighbours watching. Next up was everyone enjoying the Hayes Creek breakfast of pancakes and sausages. This was followed by the kid's races, kid’s craft (making dream catchers), and kid’s fishing hole. Each child enjoying the fun, ribbons, prizes, and candy bags.
It was then the adults' time to join in, with the Cake Walk (trying to win one of the 60 donated cakes), Mac n Cheese Tasting, Canoe Races, raffles, and bingo games.

Even with the Okanagan forest fires and smoky skies, we again had record crowds and a great weekend for local residents and their guests.
The weekend started with the Fishing Derby on Friday. There were 65 registered, with Jackson Christian catching the winning fish of 21 oz., taking home a personal pontoon fishing boat.
We then followed it up on Saturday with the Bocce and Corn Hole. Corn Hole winners were Jake and Jace. This year was a record event for Bocce with 68 entrants. Winners were the Mitchells.
Sunday morning started with 75 children in the bike parade, 165 people enjoying the Hayes Creek Pancake breakfast, then 75 in the kid's races, 75 painting wooden cutouts, and lots trying the kids fishing hole. Each child enjoying the ribbons, candy bags, and gifts.
It was then the adults' time to join in, with the Cake Walk (trying to win one of the 68 donated cakes), Chili Contest, Canoe Races, raffles, and bingo games. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better - we again set new records. After a two year break for Covid, everyone was definitely ready to meet their neighbours and have a good time.
The weekend started with the Fishing Derby on Friday. There were 65 registered, with Jackson Christian catching the winning fish of 1 pound 4.7 ounces, taking home a personal pontoon fishing boat. Children's under 16 category winners were Waymon Card and Abigail Dean. We then followed it up on Saturday with the Bocce and Corn Hole. Bocce winner was the Silva Clan. This year was a record event for Corn Hole with 96 entrants. Winners were: Jaxon and Brody

It was then the adults time, with the Cake Walk (trying to win one of the 61 donated cakes), Chili Contest, Canoe Races, raffles, and bingo games. The 2019 Labour Day weekend 36th annual Osprey Corn Roast was a record success. Everything lined up this year – the weather, the lack of smoke, and no campfire ban. There were around 550 neighbourhood property owners and their guests taking part in all the activities.
The fishing derby started it all off Friday at noon. There were 55 people trying for the largest fish. The winner at just under 1 ½ pounds was Rod DeBoer and the kid’s winner was Dane Smethurst. On Saturday morning, the Bocci tournament was held, with winners Brad H, John P, Traci S, Alan B, & Luke and runners up Mike B, Jeannette G, Sandy, & Kyia S. This was followed by the very popular Corn Hole contest with winners Tracy S & Gene, runner up Jarrod D & Jerod K. The kid’s bike parade started Saturday morning at 9:30 with 48 children showing off their decorated bikes and all receiving ribbons and gifts. Next was the children’s races – again for ribbons and gift bags. They then moved under the large tarp to complete a kid’s craft – this year it was a ‘horse’ made from a pool noodle.
Adult activities started with the band playing while guests sampled the free corn on the cob. This was followed by the ‘famous’ Cake Walk – everyone trying hard to win one of the great cakes donated by community members. If was then on to the Canoe Race, where 350 people were watching. Men’s Doubles was won by Jake & Ben Main, runners up Colburn & Zane Connelly; Mixed Doubles – Richelle Seki & Hooch Cheng, runner up Tasha Farris & Jerod Kopp; and Child/Parent Doubles – Dylan & Brent Bleasdale, runner up Peyton & Luke Woodcock.
The day ended with the raffle draws, award presentations, fire pit and meat draws and then 330 people playing 10 games of Bingo under the big tarp. Overall is was a very successful day with everyone’s families. Special thank you for all those who volunteered and donated to this great community event.

After another record year of forest fires and smoke, it cleared up for a sunny warm weekend for our 35th annual community event. Around 450 people took part in our ‘end of summer’ celebration. Events started on Friday with the fishing derby. The winning fish this year, of just over 1 pound, was caught by Jody Huff, winning her an inflatable boat. Child’s award went to Rylie Jensen. There was a record 56 registered and 53 fish weighed in.
Saturday started with 32 players in the Bocce tournament. Winning team was: Skye M, Jake P, Lea V, & Lellan B; runners up: Eva Bailey, Rennie D, Travis Carriere, & Terence T. The Corn Hole tournament followed with 56 players - winning teams were: “A” Eric Mennen & Cody G, runners up: Lea V & Avery M; “B” Trish M & Rob M, runners up: Janet D & Jessie M.

Five Chili Masters vied for the title of Best Chili – Best taste winner was Jake Petkau, runner up Mike Patricelli, and Best Table Decorations Bruce Graham. After the Horse Races, the big event for many people, young and old, is the very popular cake walk – people competing for one of the 50 cakes donated by local residents. Entertainment continued with the canoe races across the windy, cool lake (along with a few tip overs). Winners were: Mixed couples: Jen & Alexander, runners up: Candice & Chantelle; Men's doubles: Lucas & Travis, runners up: father and son team of Len & Troy M. The day ended with about 330 bingo fans enjoying 10 games under the tarp and out of the sun. The games were split up with fire pit and meat raffles. Winners of the prize draws were - BBQ: Joan Brenton; Bradley Smoker: Taryn Jewell; Outdoor Wooden Table and Chairs: Emily Sheppard; and Kids’ Mudslinger ATV: Christy Stevens.
The event could not have happen without the generous prize and food donors and to the many local volunteers who spent many hours and helped so much during the weekend. Profits from the day will be used for community improvements.

After a record year of rain free days, everyone enjoyed time around the lake. More than 450 people took part in our annual celebration.
Events started on Friday with the fishing derby. Although the winning fish was only 12 oz, winner Maria Cox was thrilled with the pontoon boat prize.
Saturday started with 56 players in the Bocce tournament - winning team was Lorne McKercher, Travis Carriere, Doug Simons, and Carol Biladau. The Corn Hole tournament followed, also with 56 players - winning team was Jake Main and Cole Connolly.
Sunday morning started with Hayes Creek Fire leading 46 children in the bike parade, followed by the kid’s races, scavenger hunt, kite painting, and fishing pond. The day ended with about 270 bingo fans enjoying 10 games under the tarp and out of the sun. OSPREY LAKE 33rd CORN ROAST - 2016
Osprey Lake’s 33rd Annual Labour Day weekend Community Corn Roast was again held under great weather and enjoyed by around 600 local residents, their families and guests. Things started out on Friday with the fishing derby (winner: Lorne Dean). On Saturday, 120 people participated in Bocci and Corn Hole games (winners: Bocci - Bruce Devin, Kelly Patricelli, Scott Moyes & Adam Prudhomme and Corn Hole - Eric Bornestig & Quintin Lowen). Sunday morning was all for the kids - starting with 36 children in the bike parade, then the races, fishing pond, and bird house painting. The second annual Chili Contest was enjoyed by over 150 ‘tasters’ who chose Rob Miller’s as the best of the day and Mike Petricelli as the best display. Everyone also enjoyed the 500 cobs of fresh Chilliwack corn and over 300 hot dogs, while enjoying the music of the local Allenby Blues Band. We had 65 cakes donated for the very popular Cake Walk. The day ended with the canoe races (winners: Men's singles - Alex Cousineau and Mixed Doubles - Carol & Dan Soenen), the raffle draws (winners: BBQ - Troy Mitchell, Log Splitter - Rod deBoer, Propane Fire Pit - Lisa Miller, Propane Smoker - Halley Patricelli), and 350 people enjoying the meat raffles and 10 games of bingo under the big tarp (winner of the game 10 chain saw was Toni Mitchell).
